In the middle of the pandemic in 2020 we attempted to manage harvests both in Hungary and France. To make things even more complicated our second daughter Emma, was born two weeks before harvest started in Hungary. As 2020 turned out to be an early ripening vintage in the Loire we have not got any other options left but to pack up the whole family and travel across Europe from one vineyard to another one as the world was coming to a stand still the second time in a year.
2020 was also one of the hottest and driest vintages in the Loire, what resulted in very early ripening with generally lower acidity levels. Therefore we decided to ferment grapes 100% on whole bunch, hoping to add some extra level of freshness to the wine. For the aging we also applied a fiberglass tank next to our 500l barrel. To keep the upfront fruit character we bottled after 12 months. This wine is showing the fruity thirst quenching character of Cabernet Franc the French call “digest”.
